November Apple Cake

1/2 cup butter*
1-1/2 cup sugar
  Cream together
1 egg* - Beat in
1 cup buttermilk*
1 teaspoon vanilla
  Beat in
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups flour
  Sift together and beat in
2 cups apples*, coarsely chopped
  Fold in and pour batter into prepared 9 x 11" cake pan
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
  Combine and sprinkle over top of batter
  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 - 40 minutes.
  Serve with whipped cream*
